The NYPD has gone too far!

A 35-year-old man posing as a police officer with a badge and a gun was shot dead by cops on a busy Bronx sidewalk yesterday after he refused to drop his weapon - which turned out to be fake.

Steven Seignious of The Bronx dressed in a cop's turtleneck, emblazoned with the NYPD logo and wearing a sergeant's gold shield and a pin bearing his name, was killed in a hail of gunfire in the Fordham section of The Bronx.

Police said the dead man's gun was a replica that looked just like the Glock 9 mm semiautomatic issued to city cops.

"At first blush, it looked like the real thing," said Bronx Borough Chief Anthony Izzo.

I cannot believe the NYPD would take such an irresponsible action. What they should have done was assembled a police coalition comprised of members of police forces from all across the world. Next, they should have assembled a dossier listing the specific charges against the man, with overwhelming evidence against him. Advice should have been solicited from coalition members on how to deal with the problem. After a substantial amount of discussion and debate, making sure that all sides were heard and included in the process, a broad-based plan for dealing with the suspect should have been drafted. This plan should then have been presented to the community at large, to get their input. When any concerns had been addressed a final plan should have been drafted, and then put into place.

Of course, by this time the suspect would have simply run away, or possibly died of old age.

After subsequently finding out that the gun was, in fact, fake, and posed no threat, a massive internationmal police tribunal should be convened to try and punish those members of the NYPD who brought the "threat" to light in the first place.
